JUNIOR

CRICKET

Welcome to the 2022/23 season at the Bulleen Templestowe Cricket Club!

As our community continues to navigate its way through the current challenges, it remains important for us to find ways to get outside and be active with our friends – and what better way to do it, than getting on board and becoming a Bullant!

Our Club fields the following teams in the BHRDCA:

  • Junior Blasters, Boys & Girls ages 5 – 8 on Wednesday evenings

  • Super 7s, Boys and Girls ages 7 – 9 on Sunday mornings

  • Fast 9s, Boys and Girls ages 8 – 10 on Sunday mornings

  • Under 12’s, 14’s, 16’s on Friday evenings and potentially on Saturday mornings; and

  • Girls T20 – Super 7s, either on Wednesday afternoons or Sunday mornings

We believe our Club culture provides an environment that will allow our Junior players to continue to develop as cricketers, as individuals and as members of a community. We see the benefit of belonging to a team – so the Club continues to invest in our Juniors by improving our coaching environment, and acknowledging that looking like a team reinforces the feeling of being a part of a team. Our vision is that all members of BTCC will be training in the same Training Tops & Caps, arrive to game day wearing the same pre-game uniforms & play in the same playing tops & caps.

To demonstrate the Club’s commitment to this vision, ALL NEW Junior players will receive:-

  • a FREE Training top

  • a FREE Club Playing Cap and

  • a FREE coloured Playing top which will have their name and a number of their choice on it.

This continues to be offered by the club largely thanks to the generosity of our sponsors who continue to provide amazing support to the Club.

To assist with the development of our Juniors, Club Coach, Jesse McInnes, continues to re-invigorate our Junior program, building the skill sets of our Junior Coaches, through some “Coach the Coaches” sessions and an increased involvement of the Senior Playing Group in the Junior Program, helping to run training sessions and sharing their knowledge and experience with the Junior Playing Group.

Further, in season 2022/23,we have instituted a Coaching program whereby u12s to u16s will have a Coach and Assistant Coaches solely from the Senior playing program, and is a fantastic means by which to have homogenous training and instil in game practices that are the same from our Veterans right the way through the our youngest Juniors.

A sample of our activities this year include:

    • Running a Coaching Clinic / Registration morning (Free) & BBQ on Sunday 11th of September 2022. We will have Senior Players down to talk to and provide tips to our Juniors, to get set up for the start of the season.

  • September Holiday clinic – 29th and 30th Sept, @ Ted Ajani, 9am – 1pm (Valued at $130) Subsidised Cost: $20 per day for registered junior Bullants. Booking details to come soon.

  • Provide One on One coaching sessions with Jesse (subsidised fees will apply) Booking details to come soon.

Through our strong and close relationship with the Bulleen Templestowe Junior Football Club and the great efforts of members of the club we continue to have strong numbers and offer an excellent environment for junior players – in a COVID-safe environment.

The Club is operating according to all appropriate COVID-19 practices & policies. These policies will overlay our Child Protection policies and have been approved by Manningham Council and Cricket Victoria. The information and protocols around COVID-19 are regularly reviewed and updated in accordance with the advice from the Chief Health Officer and Cricket Victoria.

Currently the BHRDCA is looking to have the season start Friday 7th of October for Fridays & 9th October Sundays Comps. Pre-Season Training activities are set to start Saturday, 20th August 2022. Full preseason calendar can be accessed here.

Registration Cut-off – We will keep registrations open for as long as possible – at this stage, we would like to have registrations closed by Sept 24th 2022 – this will allow us to ensure as many players as possible receive their club provided playing tops for season start. While we are happy to take late registrations after this date, placement will be subject to available space in a team. Please note this does not apply to Junior Blasters, there is no cut-off date for them – the more the merrier!

Below is a brief description of the various levels of cricket available:

    • Junior Blasters –Sponsored by Woolworths, this is a skills based program using soft plastic balls & tennis balls which is ideal for 5 to 8 year olds. It is normally around $100 (prices are set by Cricket Victoria), and runs across 8 sessions – 5 in Nov/Dec and 3 in Feb – details to be confirmed soon.

    • Super 7s – great for 7 to 9 year old children that have come up from Junior Blasters. Matches are non-competitive and are played with a softer cricket ball and on a shorter pitch. Not strictly age based – consideration should also be given to the development stage of the player. The junior playing top, whites and cricket equipment is worn. Games are played on Sunday mornings from 9am.

    • Fast 9s – ideal for 8 to 10 year old children that have come up from Junior Blasters or Super 7s to have one more year before they start competitive cricket. Like Super 7s, matches are non-competitive and are played on a shorter pitch (but longer than Super 7s). A proper 142gsm leather cricket ball is used (same as what they use in U12s). Not strictly age based – consideration should also be given to the development stage of the player. The junior playing top, whites and cricket equipment is worn. Games are played on Sunday mornings from 9am.

    • Girls Only – This is ideal for girls aged 8-16 years of age. There are various stages/levels and players will be placed in the right team based on their skill level. Games are played on Wednesday afternoons from 5pm.

  • U12s – you have to be under 12 as of 31 Aug 2022 to play in this grade (so anyone born prior to 1 Sep 2010 must play U14s). At this stage we are looking to have a Friday night team. Saturday morning available if enough interest. You can indicate your interest by emailing the Junior Co-ordinator.

  • U14s – you have to be under 14 as of 31 Aug 2022 to play in this grade (so anyone born prior to 1 Sep 2008 must play U16s). At this stage we are looking to have a Friday night team. Saturday morning available if enough interest. You can indicate your interest by emailing the Junior Co-ordinator.

  • U16s – you have to be under 16 as of 31 Aug 2022 to play in this grade (so anyone born prior to 1 Sep 2006 must play seniors). At this stage we are looking to have a Friday night team. Saturday morning available if enough interest. You can indicate your interest by emailing the Junior Co-ordinator.

Registering for higher age groups for U12-16s only – The Club has no major issue with players playing outside their “correct” age group. It will be depend on the numbers we end up having registered in each age group. If we have too many in any age group we may ask those playing up in the higher age group to return to their age based group. It may also mean that some play up and some don’t. This will be determined by the club after consultation with the coaches based on who is more capable to play in the higher age group.

Team Managers & Coaches

Bulleen Templestowe Cricket Club, like any community sporting club, relies upon the continued involvement of families and volunteers to ensure the smooth and enjoyable running of training, matches and social events. Families and volunteers are crucial to the success of teams and the overall success of the club.

This year to spread the load, we would like the teams to all have the structure below. We would encourage player families to support the club and be part of the cricket community in one of the roles we must fill to provide a safe environment for all juniors.

Each of the junior teams will require:

  • Team Coach: Coaching & co-ordination at training sessions, developing youngsters, match attendance. We have alleviated the burden on parents by instituting a Coaching program of solely Senior players, ably supported by Assistants

  • Team Manager: Match attendance, email comms, entering match results – Parents please put your hand up!!

We encourage you to become involved in our great community club. Training and support is provided to all of our volunteers.

Safety

Helmets – There have been some changes in relation to Helmets in the last year or two. It is highly recommended that any helmet used complies with the British Standard for helmet design. It is not yet mandatory, but may well be in the coming years. We recommend you ensure that if you are purchasing a new helmet, ensure it complies with this British Standard. The main noticeable difference is that the grill is “fixed” to the helmet, and not adjustable, by unscrewing. You can learn more by following the following Cricket Australia links:
